Pardon

Grim faced he stared at the chipped off ceiling
As he lay forlorn in the darkened prison cell
Where only solitude befriended him.
A myriad of events crossed his thoughts
As he reminisced that dreadful day!!
Intoxicated and with blurry broodings,
He sat behind the wheel, to drive them home
After an evening of celebration and merry with friends.
Screeching sirens and flashing lights, hurrying feet and panicked shouts
Woke him to his conscious world, to a sight he wouldn’t dare to see
A body covered in white lay aside, as law took him to their side
Repentance and guilt engulfed him, but alas it was long delayed!!
Pardon himself he could not, for a life that is lost
Though accidental yet unguarded & negligent, undeniably he was the cause.
Today as he lay in await, to the law that voiced his fate;
The cell door is opened slowly, by a man in uniform
“Pardon you, they did” he said
For their son in blood they will gain not, by taking the blood of another’s son”
Tears gushed out of his lifeless eyes,
In gratitude and grievous of his reckless act!!
