The Ecstasy of Solitude

Often Loneliness or Solitude is considered a synonym to pain, fear and unhappiness. But why…. it makes you wonder!! Give it a different perspective and you see people actually enjoy solitude, the time they get to spend with themselves away from the cacophony of the daily life, the time to do what they want to do, watch a movie of their choice and not concede to another’s like.

I am quite assured that many out there consider solitude a bliss. Very often you get to see members of a family tend to isolate themselves into their corner of solitude even in a house full of people. The likes of, one wanting to watch a comedy to another wanting to watch a Talk show to someone wanting to read a good book. It is however paradoxical that people engage in unenticing conversation on the social media platform in their so called solitude time. So is it all about not wanting to talk to a human being in person?

In today’s era, with salutations to high-end technology and innumerable social media platforms, the friends circle has widened so much in comparison to the times the friends’ circle was limited to a few but true. Today friends remain friends only within the social media platforms with no personal bonding the fact being that no one is in real; chatting to a person they have never met, characters that are hidden under the blankets of these platforms. So essentially, they are enjoying socializing within the ecstasy of solitude. No commitments, no emotions read, guaranteed privacy, freedom of choice all served in a platter – could one ask for more!!

This is the new definition of Solitude. So the adjectives adorning solitude is not any more, that of negative emotions, subdued personalities or isolation. It is the new positive of being able to be oneself without an artificial veneer in front of others; to be enshrouded enjoying the bliss of solitude. But in the euphoria of this solitude the ingredients of human life – values, emotions, attachments, traditions, and commitments are obliterated.

Do you think Solitude is an ecstasy or a dysphoria? Are we brought into this being as humans to remain isolated and aloof? Are we not disrespecting the norm of nature? I leave you readers to think about it. I would love to hear your thoughts if you consider Solitude an Ecstasy!!
