Age of Innocence

She fluttered around like a frivolous butterfly,
In the carpeted lawn of colorful flowers
She ran around in blithe, chasing the squirrel up the tree
She sang aloud to the neighbors’ delight,
Waving to all passersby was her routine bliss
A demeanor of innocence and pulsation,
She carried in her gleaming eyes.
Time surpassed, when then one day….
She felt not herself, an awareness undivulged
A spasm, a gnawing in her tummy she sensed
Turning her bright blue sky to a raging red!!
Trepidation and horror shrouded her innocence
As she ran into her mother’s arms, tears pouring inconsolably
Cradling her, the mother embosomed her lil one
A smile decorated her mother’s face, whispering into her ears
“You are a big girl now, my Princess;
To the world one day you will yield”
That day on, no flowers or squirrels heard her tapping feet
No loud songs or friendly waves were ever seen
As her age of innocence had already set!!
